I've been reading Aldo Leopold's book for the past several days, and just wanted to remark on the beauty of the imagery it has.
I'm not sure how well known it is, but it's been a "household name" sort of thing for my family since I can remember. My mother used to read it to my dad in the evening sometimes but I, being too young to comprehend the bits and pieces I overheard, couldn't grasp it. For those unfamiliar with it, it was written in 1946 by Leopold who was, among many official titles, essentially the first nature-philanthropist and all but invented conservation. The book itself is a breathtaking rendition of simple living in the woodlands of Wisconsin. The writing is so beautiful and captivating that it continually reminds me of carefully selected lyrics.
If anyone who appreciates the natural world has a chance to read it, I highly recommend it. (I might mention, there are some very moving descriptions of birds in the book)
