Didn't we have a movies-thread? Well here it goes then. What did you watch and how did you like it? Banter away. I watched The Tree Of Life yesterday. Really beautiful images and magnificent camera work, but also very pretentious and pseudo-religious. Kinda has two sides for me. Still I discovered the amazing "Lacrimosa" by Zbigniew Preisner through it, which for itself is an amazing piece and makes it worth the watch. http://youtu.be/1WvuJwMFPz4 |

Speaking of Malick, I loved The Thin Red Line, but was very disappointed by The New World. Beautiful cinematography, dull characters, and absolutely hackneyed and trite plot. Someday somebody's going to make the real story of Pocahontas, where she's a little kid who saves the life of some weird guy, but The New World isn't it. I will grant that the final scene, in England, was really good. That was the only part of the film that felt emotionally true. One of these days I will bring myself to watch The Tree of Life (and in a conceptually related vein The Fountain). I regret not seeing either in theatres, but so it goes. My in-theatres watch list at present is The Artist and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. |

Definitely see the Tree of Life. I definitely need to do so again. To be honest, I saw about 5 movies total last year. The good ones: Tree of Life Cave of Forgotten Dreams The Muppets And that was about it. |
