 Wildlife encounters

Went for a walk tonight around my neighborhood -- there's a small swamp just a couple of blocks away, right in the middle of a residential area, but surrounded by trees and pretty undisturbed. If you go there at sunset, the chorus of frogs is loud and awesome. Tonight there were three green herons hanging out, looking for dinner:

(The third is hiding in the reeds on the right side of the photo.) Wish I had a better photo, but the sun was setting and I was using a lens that was not quite up to the task.

I'm going to have to ration myself here. We recently went for a hike in a nearby National Park, and unfortunately most of the wildlife we saw consisted of insects. Fortunately, though, I like insects!

Overexposed and snowy pictures of deer from last winter. They're really beautiful animals, the family that have been visiting our house all summer long. We've been watching the fawns grow up.
