Fanfarlo - Reservoir
I think this would appeal to a lot of Shearwater folk.

Tom Waits is, indeed, the man.

The Drones - Wait Long By the River and the Bodies of Your Enemies Will Float By I saw these guys a couple of days ago, and it was an excellent show. I also stumbled on their 2007 tour blog, which is absolutely hilarious: http://dronesdiary.blogspot.com/

I am right now listening to "Chinaberry Tree" by Vic Chesnutt, who died today. [ http://pitchfork.com/news/37454-vic-chesnutt-in-coma/] Poor, poor world without him...

"Coward" is probably my favorite song of 2009 and watching him perform it last month was one of the most intense musical experiences I've had. Not as good as live, but here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQemaXoPaKo. A sad day.

So I failed to see and thank him personally. Hope my gratitude reaches him in some way.

Re: I am right now listening to...
This is sad, and a bit strange to me. Actually I had never heard his music until a few hours ago. I came home by train today from my parents', and as usual on a train I listen to music. This time I had a backlog of a few Brainwashed podcasts, and in one of them was featured a song by Vic Chesnutt. I really liked it, and mentally took note to check out more of his music. And then I get home, turn on the computer - and read this sad news.

Re: I am right now listening to...
I had the opportunity to see him in the fall, but I didn't. This really makes me regret not doing it, because now I never will. One of my friends said something pretty beautiful about the whole thing, actually: "Hopefully he gets his legs, now." If there's a place you go when you pass away, and I don't know if I believe there is, then I hope he's happy there.
