Yeah, the whole 'self deprecation' marketing doesn't really do it for me, as much as I love SP's roster of bands, even more so with SW on the team. And I hope they treat us early-birds well (seeing as how, we are, for the most part, the biggest fans).

I had ordered the CD, I think I'll cancel and get some kind of package, as I'm getting a little nervous that there are still no West coast tour dates...

There will, I repeat, WILL be west coast US tour dates. Probably in mid-May.

Alright, I'll pick up some merch on the road then. Thanks JM. Again, your responses and updates are much appreciated!

UPDATE: received the mp3 demos just now! Hurray!

Huh. Sub Pop's donating $2 of each preorder to the Audubon Society on behalf of Shearwater. That's pretty nifty. It's a significant percentage - 17% of CD purchases, 13% of LP purchases.

Aw yeah.

Not too long now! But not not too long enough, I'm afraid.

Some reviews:
ech(((o)))es & dust
Uncut (Very positive but bizarre review with lots of facts wrong about personnel etc. Quotes another song as You As You Were, too. I don't trust this person's interpretations.)

iTunes Canada has now posted the album, with lengthy samples of each song. The iTunes version includes the bonus track "I'm So Glad".

Dammit iTunes. Hopefully the bonus track is available elsewhere.

Going to try to avoid listening to the samples too much because I hate not hearing the rest of the song, but so far the portion of Open Your Houses available is a highlight.

Amazon has shorter samples if you just want a teaser. Also track times.

Insolence is 6:24. Seems to be the centerpiece.

Immaculate sounds surprisingly like REM. "Jittery New Wave thrash" isn't what I get out of it. Very different from the rest of the album, though, certainly.

Open Your Houses (Basilisk) might be my favorite track so far.

I guess Run the Banner Down is the quiet song. It doesn't sound like the political track the Uncut reviewer heard. I need to hear more.

Pushing the River reminds me a little of HTTT-era Radiohead. (Well, I mean that as a compliment.)

The last two tracks are gorgeous in different ways.

I hope I'm So Glad is available some way besides iTunes album purchase.

This is all so tempting, but I think I'm gonna wait until my package arrives in the mail (sometime in March, most likely).

I'm really curious now about Pushing the River, as Hail to the Thief is my favourite Radiohead album.

Here's my take on the album after living with it for several months: http://stephenhumphries.blogspot.com/

Ooh, I prefer the suspense and singular joy of listening to it for the first time upon receiving it, but that HTTT comparison has really got me intrigued

After listening to the 1 minute itunes samples i would have to say that Dread Sovereign is the standout track for me. It has tremendous swagger. The back half of the album feels like you're running in a swamp marsh. Exciting, perilous, atmospheric stuff going on there.

I hope the entire album gets posted on youtube soon, can't wait any longer.

Also, Believing Makes it Easy seems to be my second favourite.

I am SO EXCITED about this record. Open Your Houses is incredible. Have they been listening to Depeche Mode lately? I love DM, so that's a major compliment...
There's definitely an earthy visceral quality on this record that I haven't gotten so much from the others...LOVE IT. :)

Agreed on both counts. Immaculate is a little too straight-ahead for me, but it might grow on me with time. Pushing the River is very Radiohead-y, and definitely reflective of that era. I don't consider that a bad thing either, though.
