Direct link to the song.

It indeed is a very joyous-feeling song, quite a contrast to "Breaking the Yearlings." Playing them together, it is a great transition.

Some very "brain-sticky" lyrics pop out after a few listens. "Murmurs in the dark confessional," "rusting in the shade of the batteries," "I held your name inside my mouth through all the days of wandering," "the half-remembered wild interior of an animal life." Awesome.

And after all these years of "we're not all about birds" disclaimers... "in chambers like the rooms a swallow made." :D

You know, both songs sound like Shearwater to me. Different instrumentation, but they keep the spirit. I hope 2012 is a great year for the band.

Nicholas Kahn has an album of Photos up on Facebook, taken at the video shoot of "Breaking The Yearlings". Looks really cool, nice shots there (Kim with a bloody nose, uhoh):

According to the Facebook feed, that was actually the You As You Were video. Looks very promising. "Constructivist minotaur," ha.

Subpop posted a free Soundcloud open download of "Yearlings", if you had problems with the flash player thing.

They still haven't sent out the promos it seems, which sucks, it's slowly getting too late to review the album. :( With Matador, we had the promo at least 3 to 4 months in advance...

Album is up for pre-order on the Sub Pop site.

I grabbed a vinyl. Sort of disappointed that there's no SUPER MEGA BONUS package, but my wallet is probably grateful for it.

Thanks for the heads up. Just bagged the CD and vinyl. Yeah, I'm also disappointed there isn't a deluxe version. Maybe next time huh?

My guess is that Sup Pop is being a little more cautious with them as this is their first release. And it may be the thing that keeps me from going broke!

Then again, the "deluxe edition" for TGA was mostly the band's own doing. It was probably a lot of work and I don't blame them for going down that road again. Besides, I'm sure there will be plenty of new merch on tour for us to throw some money at.

I dunno, JM posted about b-sides being worked on. I'd be surprised if there's not something special in the pipeline.

We're seeing them release day, though, so I definitely plan to pick up a copy then anyway. And another at the record store, a-and...

Some record + t-shirt bundles are up on the Sub Pop page now. Also new is this:

Worth noting: if you pick up the Animal Joy LP from us, or at your favorite independent record store, you'll get the LOSER Edition, a colored vinyl version of the record, in this case, a blood red and black swirl. Just look for the official LOSER seal on the cover!

Loser...?

Great. Pity they didn't release all this pre-order info simultaneously.

They were good about canceling my initial order so I could grab a t-shirt bundle. Not sure why buying from record stores or the label counts as being a "loser," but I'll happily take a fancy coloured vinyl.

Is this supposed to be some sort of joke? I'm hoping Jonathan will post a clarification somewhere soon, and hopefully provide some actual details about the different formats. So far I'm quite disappointed by Sub Pop's handling of this release, but hopefully they're giving the band what they want.
