I went to this event last night, and it was absolutely beautiful. I got there at about 10 or 15 past 7:00, so they must've been very punctual (i.e. I missed the beginning). I wish I had seen/heard everything, but what a lovely evening.
The only song they played that I recognized was "I Was a Cloud," but the one before it was stunning. Everything was stunning. I hope recordings will become available! Very mellow, very atmospheric & meditative, which I guess is to be expected when the music follows nature-inspired readings taken from Charles Burchfield's journals. I wish I had gotten to say thank you to JM, but I get nervous in situations like that.

The place was standing room only. Kimberly Burke was there, and -- for you fashion lovers out there like me! -- she was wearing these really awesome red high heels; I couldn't tell if they were stilettos or wedges, but they were super high. Beautiful!

Anyway, the evening was one of my favorite performances of the last couple years. I was sad when it was over.

Am curious to hear others' impressions! And looking forward to the next opportunity to hear Shearwater live. :)

Not sure how long the audio link has been there but I just landed on it this evening.

from Burchfield's text:

What do trees feel like

Is that why they look so startled?

These songs have been recorded solo by JM in the studio and are up for purchase on bandcamp.

It turns out the second and third pieces are really a single piece, inspired by The Sphinx and the Milky Way.

They're going to be released as a limited edition single on Graveface next year. Appropriate - Hymn to the Valences is the twin of Song for the Greater Jihad.
