Re Xiu Xiu albums - try "Fabulous Muscles" as a starter. They are amazing, but it can take a little while to adjust to their world.

Thanks for making me discover Xiu Xiu! My tactics is usually to dive in head-first whenever I'm interested in something, so I picked up Fabulous Muscles along with Knife Play, Women As Lovers and Chapel Of The Chimes from eMusic. And then Dear God, I Hate Myself from iTunes.

I won't insult them by saying that it's easy listening, but in fact I find them very easy to listen to. Somehow their sonic universe seems to fit right into my world. I may be completely off track here, but somehow Jamie Stewart's voice (particularly the earlier albums) makes me think of Genesis P. Orridge. There's a kind of weird mixture of rage/outrage and vulnerability that I like very much.

Our "friends" from pitchfork bring us details and the albumcover, looks awesome:

Back in February, we reported that Xiu Xiu frontman Jamie Stewart and Shearwater main man Jonathan Meiburg had teamed up to form a new band called Blue Water White Death. And now this union of art-pop stars has unveiled its plans to the world. The self-titled debut album from Blue Water White Death is coming October 12 from Graveface.

Stewart and Meiburg took their band name from a 1971 documentary that chronicled explorers who looked for sharks in Australia's Dangerous Reef. You can watch a trailer for that movie here; it looks scarier than a motherfucker.

St. Vincent/Modest Mouse producer John Congleton produced the album, and that's the vaguely terrifying cover art above. The tracklist is below, and you'll be interested to learn that it includes tracks titled "This Is the Scrunchyface of My Dreams" and "Rendering the Juggalos".

Blue Water White Death:

01 This Is the Scrunchyface of My Dreams
02 Song for the Greater Jihad
03 Grunt Tube
04 Nerd Future
05 The End of Sex
06 Death for Christmas
07 Gall
08 Rendering the Juggalos

I'm really looking forward to this.

To side-track slightly, I'm very happy that I will also be able to see Xiu Xiu live in November in Paris.

I just received my CD in the mail today. The packaging put a huuuuuge smile on my face :D With the CD in the padded envelope there were all sorts of fun little things that I can just imagine some crazy person (crazy in a good way) putting there.

...and I got number 8/100. Nice.

Now I just have to find the time to listen to it a bit more, to be able to give a reasonably intelligent opinion :)

Oh, yes, you're right, I also had a huge smile on my face when I saw all these tiny funny things. And I got 5/100. Now we all should meet to put the pieces of the puzzle together, hehe.
