Night of the Swallow or All the Love by Kate Bush...or Army Dreamers. :)

One of my favorite covers is from Ulver. They took Black Sabbath's song "Solitude" and turned it into a quiet, meditative song, not far from the type of music David Sylvian made in the early 90s. I'm more impressed with covers like that, where the style is completely changed.

With that idea in mind, I'd like to hear Shearwater give that same type of treatment to a metal song, taking something heavy and making it sound like a Shearwater song. In order to avoid seeming like a gimmick, it would have to be something that would fit with Shearwater's lyrical themes. I'm thinking something like "Nighttime Birds" or "On Most Surfaces" by The Gathering, or perhaps "From Sinking" by Isis.

OH. I've got it.

"The Crane Wife - Part III" by the Decemberists.

Just played it on my guitar and sung (somewhat) like JM. Sounded beautiful.

I confess, I listed "the Night of the Swallow" by Kate Bush because it's such a freakin' cool tune & also conveys a pretty impressive dynamic vocal range...but aren't some of these bird-related titles getting a little cliche? It's like only listing love songs for a musician-songwriter who happens to also be a marriage counselor.

^ Ok sorry, maybe there isn't such an abundance of bird-related song references...But I'll carry the thought further and say that I discovered Baby Dee through Shearwater and I looovvvve the song, "The Robin's Tiny Throat." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bL9sfqOFpWI
