Spent 24 hours in the slammer too for an illegal parade~~
The best thing: the police didn't hang on to my film (I had six rolls I had taken foolishly in my bag when I was nabbed, plus another two int he cameras I had on me).
The second-best part: The surreal, surreal New York City Jail experience. I was put in "The Tombs" they call it. Spent 14 hours in one cell with a collection of protestors, some chill, some psychologically deformed.
The illegal parade: two marching bands made it a block and a half until the police re-routed them into a side street, with cops on the other side. The crowd's spirit was phenomenal in the parade, completely positive. When it was clear we weren't getting out people just accepted it.
New York City overall: rocks. Except I had to leave to get back to work and so couldn't stay for the Mendoza Line CD release show! Man.
